Single and working for Christ

Most churches have a singles ministry but I will be honest, I have never joined. Over the years my interest has varied but never enough to take the plunge and venture inside a meeting. While what I am about to say next is far from the truth a part of me feels that Single Ministries have a stench of “desperation” attached to them. I know there main objective is not to play match maker but I don’t necessary feel comfortable with the labels and thoughts associates with it. Again, I will admit I’m an outsider looking in.

All these dating sites directed toward Christian singles only serves as added pressure to find your “soul mate”. The devil will sometimes use my feelings of loneliness and sadness, to make these mediums look more and more appealing. I’m not surprised when he dangles what appears to be something good in front of me just to separate me from the love of Christ.

While the lows and lengths of these lonely spells are few and far between they still occur. I find solace in reading, writing, mediating, find new adventures (small ones) to explore and/or adding projects to things I’m working on. The important part about doing these things is it allows feel good about myself and good about the people I’m serving. I feel more fulfilled when I am making good quality use of my time and God given talents. Those close to me will say that I work 24.5 hours a day just to stay busy enough. That is partially true and that is okay because I’ve never known someone to get in trouble by being busy at work and focused on Christ.

I do think that during my single life I’m able to work for Christ in a way married couples can’t. And being single is definitely a time to build, tear down and build again a relationship with Christ that will survive life; literally and figuratively. I enjoy the work that I do in my Lords name; it brings me true joy, happiness and peace. I do it because I love it and I want Christ to be proud of the work I’ve been able to do, for His kingdom, with the gifts he’s given me.  If I am to be married I want my husband to find me working in the church, for my family and community. I’m not sure yet why it’s so important to me but I’m content with knowing that it is for now. We can talk about this some more if you like. Feel free to also ask me questions on how to combat the lonely.

#takemyfoolishadvice being a Christian single is not a death sentence. The best is always what God has in store for you.

Jesus Resurrection = Promise

Easter doesn’t mean bunny rabbits and egg hunts to me anymore. Instead it’s a reminder that Jesus died for me, little ole me, and me personally. I have come to love Jesus’s death and resurrection more and more because of the promise Jesus wrote to me in a love letter. “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:2-3

I hold that promise dear to my heart and it gives me hope and joy and love and peace knowing God wants me to be with Him, in Heaven; and not just me but those that I love as well.

#takemyfoolishadvice read God’s love letters to you some time, you just might come across a promise that He wrote to YOU.

How to teach your child about God

As my son got older I struggled with creating different ways to teach him about God. I didn’t just want to teach him but rather show him how to develop and nurture a spiritual relationship with Jesus. I started off with prayer, which we know is the single most important form of spiritual communication with Christ. I would encourage him to not only pray but to speak and give praise during his daily communion with the Lord. As he has grown I feel that the seasons are changing. About a year or two ago I introduced animated videos depicting amazing stories of the Bible. Now that he’s an avid reader we watch those videos and compare them to the literal stories in the Bible to identify differences and variations. This shift in teaching has been monumental, it’s a higher level of learning.

Prayer is a lifeline, that's the least you can teach them.

My son is engaged because it’s an animated film depicting a complex story in laymen terms. Now he’s able to take what he’s seen and put it into proper contexts when reading the Word. He is also learning to test biblical tools against the Word, the main source, to identify discrepancy. The Bible teaches us that in the end days there will be false prophets and false doctrines so it is vital for His people to know and understand the Word.

As a parent I do feel pressure at times to be a positive spiritual role model as well as teacher. I also want to be the type of parent that is a “doer” of the word, not just speak of it. Jacob knew who God was solely because of his father. He didn’t have a Bible like us; he had a parent that knew, trusted, and loved Christ. From that relationship alone Jacob knew that he should create and maintain the same type of relationship. That is what I want for my son.

#takemyfoolishadvice it’s never too late to teach your child about Christ and if you don’t know where to start, start with prayer. Then escalate to reading famous stories from the Bible and when you child is ready, encourage them to interpret what they understood from their lesson. This could be a reenactment through a short dramatization, a drawing/painting, or a story in their own words.  The most important thing is to simply start.

RUN YOUR OWN RACE!

RUN YOUR OWN RACE! STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE! Last night I had to remind myself of this very thing. In life you go through situations, obstacles, trials, tribulations, victories, joys; it’s a journey.

It is easy to look at your world… do you know what I mean by your world? Your world being the people around you: friends, associates, colleagues, family, etc.. It is easy to look at your world and desire what those people in it have or what amazing event they may be experiencing in their life. Meanwhile back at the ranch you’re questioning your own situation, your lack of luxury, your lack of fantastic whatever. That is easy.

Beloved, it may be easy but it’s not worth it. God blesses all of His faithful and just children in His perfect time. When God pours out His blessings on you it is no mistake. As believers we have to remain focused on our own path, our own race, our own journey. The path to Christ is already a narrow one. No one else can run your race for you. Be honest with yourself and take in this reality I’m about to give you; as close as you may be to someone in your world, you don’t know their complete sacrifice. You do not know what they may have had to endure to obtain, or retain, what they have or where they are in life. You don’t know the hell that they maybe secretly living with every day. Why desire something they have when God is giving you peace within your own skin, within your own situation. God has many things resereved for you. If you are more focused on everyone and everything else how can He lead you to your blessings.

RUN YOUR OWN RACE, that’s what I had to say to myself. God needs all of my attention. I can’t afford to be distracted by So and So’s new car or new house or new outfit or whatever. I need to be focused on my love relationship with Christ, on my open ended conversation with Him, on the soul He wants me to minister to, on the child He wants me to embrace and love, on the elderly women He sends my way to remind her she matters. The Lord and I are BUSY!

Don’t get me wrong, you should praise Him for showing people in your world mercy, grace and blessings. Because everything good that man has acquired is a gift from God. God doesn’t want you to desire/lust after what someone else has. He wants you to have your own. When God pours out a blessing on you, it is enough for you and those around you. Praise Him for your race; it is your opportunity to do something great with your life.

After the Holy Spirit convicted my heart, I felt such comfort and peace. There is peace in Christ. I’m so happy to be running my own race.

You can’t run your own race if you are so focused on what someone else is doing and what you don’t have. Stay focused on your own race #takemyfoolishadvice

Your job may be to maintain or sustain someone’s walk with/to Christ

As I was painting one of the bedrooms today I was in mediation with the Lord. I have been on an endless quest to discover my God given purpose on heart. I believe that I am in a season of preparation. Preparation for what you may ask? I have no idea :-) but I am waiting patient to discover it all. Currently I am in a season of prayer and devotional, more detail about this season will come later, and what promoted this season is of course as I mentioned earlier a quest to discover my purpose AND a story a friend told me. A friend of mine mentioned that he went home to visit his mother for Thanksgiving and while at the supermarket he ran into his old boss. Old like a boss from 15 years ago. The boss was pleased to see him and also told him that it was because of him while he decided to go to church and be baptized. His boss also mentioned that his mother had been praying for him to return to church for years and to no avail. How amazing! 15 years ago my friend had just graduated from high school and his boss was in his 40′s. God used this child to reclaim a lost soul. click here to cont. reading
