I wake every day expecting to learn a new life lesson, to venture into a new or different experience. Some days I am pleasantly surprised. Other days I repeat angrily, sorrowfully to myself, “I am not prepared for this day! I wish I had known this 10 years ago, 5 years ago, a year ago, hell any day(s) ago… just before today.” Life never stops and the lessons won’t either. For the purpose of making your life a little easier this blog is filled with all the things that I know now that I wish I knew earlier in life. So… Take My Foolish Advice on life, college, parenting, family, finances, relationships, natural hair for eczema suffers, maneuvering in corporate arenas, professionalism, networking and much, much more. Let’s see if we can build our own village to make this thing called life a little less complex, shall we!
My name is Amy Walker; I am the author of the 2012 book series and blog “Take My Foolish Advice”. I was born to parents that emigrated from Kingston, Jamaica to Brooklyn, New York. I now reside in Florida, the sunshine state, with my 7-year-old son who is a freaking genius and plotting to take over the world. Right beside his mother!

I just came across your blog. This is right on time, just yesterday me and a friend were just discussing the very same issues. Especially finding information on making helpful financial choices. Have a great 2012!
Hi Jeane,
I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. Stay tuned in because I have a lot to discuss. Here’s to being the best you, you can be! Cheers.

Hi Amy, this is Avril. I am very proud of you. I just read your blog and I find it very interesting. Give me your take on students who went to college and cannot find jobs and have student loans to repay.
Hi Avril,
Thanks for the uplifting words; I’m glad that you’re enjoying my blog. This economy is hurting lots of individuals right now but recent graduates are especially hurting. I’m an MBA graduate and have had a difficult time with employment during this recession. I will certainly be discussing what graduates can do to increase their employment opportunities in more detail in the future. Stay tuned and thank you for taking my foolish advice.

Hey there Amy – I saw you on the Anderson show today and immediately came along to ‘check out’ your blog – I am very inspired by people who have taken to the ‘blogging world’ and can sustain an income from it. I myself fell across blogging only 6 months ago and absolutely love it. One day I hope to be in your position, I even hope to meet Anderson. My ultimate would be to meet Michael J Fox on the Anderson show…..(Just sending that one out to the universe!)…. All the very best to you and your endeavors in life – Cheers SorrentoMoon (ps – I love your blog!!)
Hi SorrentoMoon,
Blogging has been a part of my professional life for quite some time. Back then I didn’t enjoy it much. I saw it more as a task to complete then a creative outlet. Now I really enjoy connecting with readers. The key, for me, is to remain in a constant pursuit to find joy in the topics I blog about first and readership second. I really enjoy what I do and pray that I continue to fall deeper in love with it. Best of luck with your own blog and making your ultimate goal come true.
P.S I love your username!

I just came across your blog because my American born husband heard me say to my children, “Take my foolish advise…” He looked at me like I was crazy. He asked, ‘What does that mean? that’s an oxymoron”. I couldn’t even explain because I grew up hearing that all the time from my Jamaican parents, who like you imagrated here from JA to Brooklyn, NY in the seventies. Although I was born in NY, my roots are so Jamaican, it’s crazy. But I was googling the best way to explain this to my husband and I saw your blog. Nothing is by accident!
I just began reading your blog. Keep up the good work, sistren!!! LOL
LOL Jackie,
How funny is that! I’m happy that you found our spot in cyber space and pleased to hear you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read so far. Please be sure to stick around, we would love to hear more from you! As to how you can explain what “takemyfoolishadvice” means to your husband, simply tell him that it means he has to listen to everything you tell him for the rear of his life- even if it sounds foolish. Try that and be sure to let us know if it worked. LOL
