OMG Moment #3: He smelt my shoe on our 1st date

I decided to put myself back out there and see what the dating scene was like after all these years. I agreed to go on a blind date with a handsome cool brown skin gentleman, with a low cut Caesar and goatee. Ladies he was very attractive and in great physical shape. We spoke on the phone a few times and seemed to really hit it off. From the pictures he sent me, skiing, surfing and riding his motorcycle, I could tell that he was adventurous and that appealed to me.

We decided the first date would be dinner and a movie after work in an area I was a tad bit unfamiliar with. I took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost on my way to the restaurant. I called him for directions and pulled over at a gas station as he had instructed. It was still bright out so I wasn’t scared. Plus, I knew how to find the expressway if I wanted to head home. He arrived at the gas station about 15 minutes later, making that our first encounter. Not really what I was going for but I was the one who had gotten lost. I was pleased that he did the gentleman like thing by coming to get me as oppose to giving me more directions over the phone though.

He opened my car door, we hugged and said hello to each other. I thought that I would get back into my car and immediately follow him to the restaurant but instead he began to make small talk. I figured he was nervous. I’ll admit I certainly was. I tried really hard not to stare and smile but he was very attractive. After a few minutes I sat back into my car and just when he was about to close my door he said, “AWalk you are even more attractive in person. You look beautiful. I love your outfit and the way put yourself together, you look terrific!” Ladies, my heart was like warm butter over some hot corn on the cobb. LOL. I smiled and said, “thank you” as if I wasn’t fazed a bit. I reached to start my engine but noticed he still had not closed my door. That’s when he hit me with it. This fine tall handsome man looked me dead in the eye and said “You have on a nice pair of heels there. You mind slipping your feet out so I can take a look at your toes?” WHAT?!?!?!? LMBO! I had started to chuckle then it grew into a full blown laughter.

We had joked on the phone about women that wore high heeled pointy toe shoes with jacked up hammer toes before. I was really hoping that this was a joke gone too far but would quickly end. NOPE. He crouched down and slipped off my shoe so fast and so smoothly, it caught me completely off guard. I was startled and yet excited at the same time at his skills. It made my mind wonder for a minute. LOL. Don’t judge me.

Now, I have been told that I have pretty feet many times before. And it’s true. I scrub my feet daily in the shower and I keep them well-manicured. I was not ashamed to show them off but this was our first date and we were at a gas station on the way to dinner. That’s when he did the unthinkable ladies; he held my shoe to his face and inhaled deeeeeeep. He looked at me and said, “Bet you thought I was joking about having a foot fetish! Nah girl, you have cute feet too. The kissable type!”

Stick a fork in me, I’m done. I was SHOCKED. I thought to myself “never before and never again”. I asked for my shoe back with a disgusted smile on my face.

Once we began our journey to the restaurant, I pulled a quick right when he made a left and I was on the expressway home; never to be heard from again. He called and left a message apologizing and asking for another date but flashes of him wearing my shoes and licking my toes kept me from returning his calls. I’m just not into all of that.

LOL needless to say it was an interesting encounter and way too funny. I’ll let you guys know how the next date goes. #takemyfoolishadvice the purpose of the first date is to get a second one. Don’t let too much of yourself out there at once, it might be too much for the other person to handle. Share your craziest dating stories below.

Are single mothers damaged goods?

Single mothers are only good for sex, as side pieces or jump-offs!
Single mothers are not to be taken seriously; they’re something to have fun with!
Single mothers are reckless and sleep with multi partners!
Single mothers are uneducated and living off of government assistance!
Single mothers go on one date with you and try to make you their “baby daddy”!
Single mothers have multiple babies by multiple men!

Heard enough… These are some of the stereotypes that I’ve heard both sexes hurl around to either defend or offend single mothers and women in general. The list can go on and on and on… and don’t be a black single mother because that brings about a whole set of stereotypes on its own. Though I wish this were false, in my experience, most of these hurtful stereotypes are spoken by other women.

There is such a horrible stigma attached to being a single mother it’s a wonder why more of us haven’t killed ourselves from depression, suicide or silence. By no means am I saying that being a single mother should be worn as a badge of honor. I will declare, however, that we are not the bottom of the barrel simply because we are single mothers. We all are not gold-digging-hoochie-momma’s trying to sleep, or steal, your man. Nor are we running around having sex with reckless abandonment. While the world loves to use us as their poster child of “what not to do” and fit us into their statistical analysis, it’s forgotten in the process that we are human beings WITH emotions.  Need I remind you that we are all sinners and while my sin (pre-marital sex) can be physically seen it still doesn’t make you a first class citizen.  We are too comfortable with judging and reminding others of their short comings in this world. The self-esteem and character of single mothers are continuously under attack for one single act of indiscretion.  We all fall short of the glory of God, not just single mothers.

After the smear campaign what remain are sisters, daughters, nieces, role models, business women, leaders and women of character, integrity, honor, pride, love and yes a single mother. Please do not get my message Read the rest of this entry

My son could be the next #Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin Protest - Sanford

My heart is beating but when I watch the news it slows
I’m smiling at my 7 yr old son but when I look at him… I’m not seeing him, I see the struggle
I smile with my eyes but tears escape from them and water him with sorrow

I birth him into a nation that hates him for living
I signed his death certificate and forfeited his birth certificate the day I conceived him
My son could be the next #Trayvon Martin simply because his skin is kissed by the sun
and he is the son from a long lineage of births… into destruction

When will the killing of black boys and men stop? My heart has already failed me. And stopped!

RIP Trayvon Martin

White people, hate black people and Adam’s Eve was black… #Trayvon Martin

Sinead O’Connor Demands Justice For Trayvon Martin

Controversial singer Sinead O’Connor (Nothing Compares 2 U), posted an open letter on her website, expressing her strong feelings about the case of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen shot and killed in February by a neighborhood watch volunteer. In the lengthy letter, which is an excellent read, the outspoken Irish singer/songwriter is outraged that George Zimmerman, who claims he shot Martin in self-defense, has not been arrested. She writes: ■■■■■■

I would like to extend my very deepest sympathies to the family and other loved ones of murdered teenager, Treyvon Martin. I am very sad today (and am certain the whole of Ireland is) to learn of poor Treyvon’s terrifying ordeal and horrified by the fact his known and named and admitted killer has not been arrested, despite the crime having taken place a month ago. This is a disgrace to the entire human race. For those out there who believe black people to be less than pure royalty, let me inform you of a little known, but scientifically proven, many times over, FACT. Which after reading, you will hopefully feel both very stupid and very sorry. For you dishonor your own mothers and grandmothers.

EVERY human being on earth, no matter what their culture, creed, skin colour, or nationality, shares one gene traceable back to one African woman. Scientists have named it ‘The Eve Gene’. This means ALL of us, even ridiculously stupid, ignorant, perverted, blaspheming racists are the descendants of one African woman. One African woman is the mother of all of us. Africa was the first world. You come from there! Your skin may be ‘white’.. because you didn’t need it to be black any more where you lived. But as Curtis Mayfield said.. “You’re just the surface of our dark, deep well”. So you’re being morons. And God is having the last laugh at your ignorant expense. If you hate black people, its yourself you hate. And the mother who bore you. If you kill or wish ill on black people, its yourself you kill and wish ill on. As well as the mother who bore you.

When you dishonor the the utter glory and majesty of black people, you lie. Your heart lies to you and you let it. Despite seeing every day, all your life, how you and your country would be less than wonderfully functioning and inspiring to the world, without the manifold and glorious contributions made by the descendants of African slaves, who did not by the way actually ask to go to America and leave their future families there to be disrespected for eternity.

What are you doing hating yourself by hating your brothers and sisters who daily show you nothing but inspiration and love, despite having NOTHING, in their own country? Despite having barely a chance of anything, because of racism. Despite being granted no ‘permission’ for proper self-esteem.

These beautiful people continue to believe in and even manifest Jesus Christ better than you do. That alone could stand as the greatest reason your racism is blasphemy, were it not for all the other reasons.

These people you hate and fear ARE the body of Christ, just as we all are. Every child, woman or man. And they know it. Maybe that’s why you can’t bear to look at them. Because you see Jesus Christ and you can’t stand the light.

Stop this ridiculous and uneducated attitude. You would be dead without black people. Think of all the greatest music ever composed. The greatest songs. The greatest inspirational heroes.. Muhammad Ali, Mandela, Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Soujourner Truth, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield. So many absolute angels, sent from God.

Without the inspiration of these people many millions of so-called ‘white’ people, including myself would not have had the strength to pay the price of life. And black youth in America. I’m talking to you here too. I love you. So I don’t mean to sound cross, I’m just being a mother.. Why are you killing each other? Why are you hating yourselves? You are the most important people God ever sent to this earth, every man, woman and child among you! Don’t let uneducated people win and take your self-esteem or your esteem for each other, and make you kill each other. over guns, drugs, bling, or any other nonsense. Read the rest of this entry

Featured: Meet Sergeant First Class Wavell Williams Jr, US Army

Last month the readership response to the Harriett’s, the amazing husband and wife duo that gave up their life in the United States to become missionaries in Africa, was amazing and you guys demanded more.

This month’s feature focuses on someone who is just as amazing. He’s smart, courageous, and his wife will describe him as “the most handsome husband, dad, and solider in uniform”.  Meet Sergeant First Class Wavell Williams Jr, US Army, 25B Information Systems Operator.

Before he had these honorable and distinguished titles before his name, I knew him as plain ole Wave. Too as far back as I can remember he always had a thrill seeking nature about him and never backed down to a challenge. Oldest brother to three naturally he is protective. When he had decided to enlist in the United States Army in 2000 my first thought was, the Army isn’t ready for Wave!  After his first year he returned home and paid me a visit at my parents’ house.  We sat on the porch and he described basic training, the camaraderie amongst fellow soldiers and the differences between army life and civilian life. The boy that I had once known transformed into a mature adult with priorities strictly aligned to meet clear and obtainable goals. It was apparent to me then that he was maturing into a man, a man of God, a man of character and virtue. He even had a little mustache to prove it. LOL.

After serving 4 tours in Iraq, Wave, age 30, has seen the best and worst of what people can do to each other. Through it all his personal relationship with God has allowed him to endure and see the silver linings of life. Still jumping out of the back of planes and protecting our freedom he now has made it his personal mission to share his love of aviation with family and friends. And what better way to do it then giving them the first-hand experience of a life time, having them ride co-pilot.

Climb aboard for my exciting interview with Sergeant First Class Wavell Williams Jr.

Meet Sergeant First Class Wavell Williams Jr. March 2012

What is your first love? real love – a woman…LMS (let me stop), the “other” love – aviation

Well I would hope your first love is a real woman. I’ve seen a few episodes of My Strange Addition. We share a laugh like old times as we reflect on some of the craziest episodes we’ve seen but then we’re focused again. So how will you use your love for aviation to change the way people view the world in 2012? By taking as many people, especially minorities, on a plane ride as soon and as much as possible. Hopefully inspiring them to begin a career in aviation. I got the chance to take my parents in flight with me. Both of them got a chance to feel my excitement for flying. I take many friends flying as often as I can and that usually changes their position on aviation.

My son has always had a fascination with planes. He’s 7 years old but he knows that he wants to build them one day. He was really excited to see your pictures.

I’m almost scared to ask but, what is the craziest thing you have ever done? Jumped out of a C-130 with 20 knot gusting winds in Iraq and landing on a near-concrete ground. Made for a great story. At that point, I had been a Paratrooper for 10 years and it was my 50th jump. It was also the fastest drop to the hardest, most complicated landing I’ve ever had. Ever.

You’re right that does make for a great story. President Obama has brought most of the troop’s home but the US economy is still in a slow moving downward slump. What opportunities, in your occupation, exist for other African Americans between 21-40 years old? NUMEROUS. The military is a melting pot of culture and races. One can come off the street and be trained to be part of a unit and then receive specialized training on a multitude of career fields. Many of the skills and trades taught in the Army can be transferred to civilian careers. Even though a lot of our men and women have been brought home, protecting our freedom is a job that will never end.

Everyone knows that a man in uniform doesn’t stand alone. There are family and friends awaiting your return. Thankfully your parents are still with us and you have two younger brothers. In addition, you’ve been married for 3 years; have 2 year old twins and a daughter on the way right now. Congratulations on the little ones! How does your work affect your spouse and family dynamics? It has a lasting effect every day. Sometimes with this career, you are called away suddenly to serve a purpose higher than your own. As a result you will miss anniversaries, birthdays, Christmases, New Years, birth of your children, weddings of your friends and a host of other things. It sucks, but at the end of the day when it’s all done and you’re coming home, I can usually say, it’s okay. For some reason, a decision was made and we must execute that decision. The family, while they may not always like it, is supportive.

Marriage, twins, baby on the way, husband that jumps out of planes defending our freedom for a living. Your wife is amazing; I can only imagine the juggling act she puts on every day to keep everything balanced. Sarcastically, with one eye brow raised high. So Wave, tell me, what amazing things have you done with and in your life thus far? Laughter takes over. Your wife is here just … you know… giving birth… two twins and another one on the way. We laugh and then I allow him to answer.   I’ve been the recipient of the highest achievement in life. Being a dad. Yes, I’ve got two boys and a girl on the way with an amazing wife that I adore that manages to do it all when duty calls. A distant second is earning a pilots certificate with an instrument rating and a complex/ high performance aircraft endorsement. Third would be learning to play the piano and learning how to teach music. That was pretty fun. But yes, my wife is amazing and what she does for our family is undeniable short of a miracle.

The twins on the job.
Cute! Period.

That is wonderful, hats off to good wives and good mothers. There are three questions that I like to ask everyone I interview, especially those that have had the opportunity to see the world.

What is your advice to other young adults that want to travel? Go to your local airport. Tell them you want to learn to fly. EARN your private pilot certificate and instrument rating. Travel wherever you want to go. See the world from the pilot’s chair, blog about it and take NUMEROUS pictures.

Friends in flight

Great advice! I’m praying that my son designs a spectacular aircraft that he can pick me up in. What should more 21-35 year olds be doing that they’re not? Saving for retirement. A lot of times I see my Soldiers with the latest car or clothing. I remember when I was that misguided. When I ask them of the future, they usually refer to the 50 meter (immediate) target and forget about the 300-meter target. The thing is, many times, it’s the 300-meter target that will take you out before the 50-meter even touches you. Moral of the story, plan for the future or you and your work will soon be reciting marital vows – til death do you part.

I’ve discussed financial topics often on the blog. I hope my readers really take your message to heart and #takemyfoolishadvice when it comes to budgeting and planned spending. What is a charity or cause you will support or continue to support in 2012? ADRA – Adventist Development and Relief Agency. I’ve been supporting them through the CFC – Combined Federal Campaign for years. They are one of the first relief organizations on ground during a disaster, so I support it.

Sergeant First Class Wavell Williams Jr. and dear friend, thank you for taking the time to allow us into your world. God’s grace has kept you well. I pray God’s continuous favor on you and your family. TMFA readers this will not be the last time we hear from the Sergeant, I will be sure to drop in with a picture of the that beautiful bouncing baby.

UPDATE: I was just informed that little Ms. Arieonna Elizabeth was born on February 26th 2012 at 6lbs 11 oz. 18 inches long. Both mother and baby are doing well. Congratualtions again to the Willimas’ family.

Arieonna Elizabeth

#takemyfoolishadvice you’re never too young to be an instrumental difference in your own life or the lives of others. It doesn’t take a special person to be called to defend the honor and virtue of millions. God used David to defeat Goliath. Decide today to use your life to do something amazing. Listen for your God given purpose and when you hear it, be sure to come back and share it with us in the comment section below.

Beloved,

AWalk
