Not Disappointed By President Obama

I know that many of you probably have already seen this, but I felt impressed to post this on my blog tonight as it has just been announced Mitt Romney won the battle ground state Florida, the state in which I reside. I, just like you, is just a concerned citizen that just want more of the issues addressed and less of the attacks and empty promise. I’m attaching this video because I think that this gentleman spells out the achievements and concerns of the White House very clearly.

On October 8, 2011, Democrats Abroad France held an event titled “Voices for Obama” at the Nikki Diana Marquandt Gallery in Paris. One of the speakers was the American author Jake Lamar. This clip is a shortened version of his talk. (Recorded at the Atelier de la Main d’Or, October 2011.)

Mitt Romney Wins Florida

English: Governor Mitt Romney of MA

If you follow my blog then you know that this year, election 2012, I vowed to first look at the issues that affect me and my community before I align myself with a political party. While, I’m not ready to declare myself a Liberal or Undecided I can say I am not happy with the political atmosphere. I know too many college graduates under 30 years old with great talent and skill that are unemployed or underemployed. I know too many individuals that are suffering physically and can’t receive any or sufficient medical care. I also worry that when my son reaches college age (8 years to go) he will have to attend a collegiate institution aboard and seek employment outside the USA to be afforded the best opportunities.

I’m listening to Mitt Romney Florida win speech and I just don’t buy it. I hear things like “I know how to create and build a successful business…” “I will make the United States look great again…” “I will create an environment that entrepreneurs can flourish in…” I need a President that is going to take action, not listen to the 1% of wealth that seems to be leading this nation, but rather the 99% of those actually sustaining it. I know this is too much to ask.

#takemyfoolishadvice If you are eligible to vote this election year then you owe it to this nation to stay abreast to what the issues are that you may select a candidate that will rectify our wrongs to create a better tomorrow and future. I will continue to stay tune.

Making New Friends at 30

I recall one of my first initial interaction with a really close girl friend of mine. Years ago in college, when commuting between campuses, those typically ‘get to know you’ questions came up. She broke the awkward silence with the usually, “Where are you from?” “Do you have siblings?” “What’s your major?” “Do you have a boyfriend?” Now a little bit about me, I am an introvert naturally and a very private person so I preferred to sit there in silence. Politely, I answered all of her questions and just reversed them so I could learn the same about her.

Once we reached our destination I had gathered that we had a few things in common and she would be someone that I could befriend and potential hang-out with in the future. And I was right. Until this day she is one of my closest friends and confidants, so imagine my surprise when she told me when she first met me she thought I was a lesbian. Laugh out loud hilarious. She asked me 4 questions. 4 questions and none of them were, “By any chance are you a lesbian?” What in the world did I say to warrant that conclusion, I thought. Read the rest of this entry

The Anderson question that bothered me

While speaking with Anderson’s producers they asked me a few questions to get to know me better. There was one question that bothered me, I just couldn’t get it out of my head. The question was “What is your favorite Anderson moment?” I had a hard time answering it. Even though we’d move on the question lingered in my mind. Could it mean I wasn’t his biggest fan? Did they think I wasn’t his biggest fan? Were they expecting me to be a fanatic and have crazy moments cataloged in my brain? In my head I silently began to scream frantically, “I promise you I’m Anderson’s biggest fan!” But if that was true why couldn’t I answer the question?

Back in reality… it finally hit me. Anderson Cooper is not a moment, he’s an EXPERIENCE! I don’t have a favorite moment. What I do have is experiences of me talking back to my television screen in agreement as if Anderson can hear me. I love it when Anderson calls out a politician on their BS. Perfect example is when Anderson called out Rick Santorum when he denied saying “black” in, “make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money.” Anderson totally pulled his collar. BAM!, OR when my dad falls asleep with CNN on and as soon as I try to turn off the TV he yells, “Leave it on… let me hear what Anderson has to say!” OR when I experience the look on my son face as he travels the world via Anderson on location in New Orleans, Haiti, Egypt or wherever the news is happening. I experience Anderson, his passion for his craft, his desire to “keep them honest” and inform young viewers like me. I am a fan and an even bigger one since meeting him in the flesh. But most of all I am a respectful viewer watching greatness in action.

You can catch Anderson Cooper on CNN, his talk show Anderson, or online at twitter @Anderson. (Check your local listings for show info)

#takemyfoolishadvice this is an election year, get informed, watch Anderson Cooper. He will ask the tough questions and demand the answers you deserve.

My Anderson Cooper Experience

In addition to winning an all expense paid round trip excursion to New York City from Florida, a swanky hotel stay at New York’s posh Hudson Hotel and an appearance on TV hottest talk show taped live, I received a gift bag filled with goodies and got to meet Anderson Cooper in the flesh. From the personal driver bearing my name at the airport to the hotel representative that had a ring in her voice when she said my name, I felt like a “Super Star”. I flirted with the thought of wearing dark black aviator glasses and turning into a southern diva who would scream “Bellhop, where’s my Ice Tea?” But that’s not me. Instead I smiled like a school girl who knew she was the teacher’s pet. I was on an emotional roller coaster that some how got stuck in the one position. I was wired.

Once I took a moment to gather myself and take it all in, I have to say I was very impressed. Anderson consists of a very diverse personnel group. I saw young, old, African American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, large, skinny, men, women, you name it they were their working for Anderson. They were genuinely kind and outstandingly professional. That meant a lot to me because I know the people that watch, love and support Anderson Cooper, and his various business endeavors, come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Kudos to the Anderson staff for doing an awesome job while being so awesome.

The clip below was taken backstage after the show was taped. You can see I was still a babbling star struck fan. #takemyfoolishadvice you never know where one experience will lead you or leave you so enjoy it!

Meet Anderson Cooper’s Glam Squad

Anderson Cooper’s Glam Squad

Once I received the call that I was Anderson’s 2000000th twitter follower winner I had 3 hours to secure a baby sitter, pack my bags and drive to the airport. My mind was racing but I managed to throw a few suits in my suitcase along with my make-up kit and …. OMG! I forgot all my hair supplies at home. I didn’t even pack a comb. Need I remind you I have a head full of natural hair. Crash. Burn. Scorched. This may be my one and only time meeting Anderson Cooper and I can’t even comb my hair. I smiled at God and went to bed watching CNN in my hotel room.

Once I arrived to the studio I received the star treatment. I had a welcome platter of sweet decadence and croissants waiting in my dressing room. Professional make-up artist to the stars, Travis Culberson and fabulous hair stylist to everyone important, Kristi Nichole were awaiting my arrival. Ohhh! Fancy, I thought to myself.

Travis was so graceful and attentive to my facial features. I normally don’t wear a lot of make-up so deep down I was nervous. My worst fear was that I would not recognize myself once he was done. He was so cool and ignored my nervousness, which actually put me at ease. He whipped out his arsenal of high-end cosmetics and accentuated my natural features, lined and smoked out my eyes for a dramatic flair, contoured the hollows of my cheeks, highlighted my eyebrows and sexyfied my lips with a burgundy hued lip gelly. I was sexy and very classy honey. I loved my look and the best part was I still looked like me.

After my mini hair meltdown the night before I woke up determined not to be defeated by my natural hair. At this point it was now responding to New York’s 49 degree weather. I quickly two strand twisted it and after breakfast set my twist a loose. I didn’t know what kind of reaction to expect from Kristi when she saw me. But surprisingly, while doing my make-up Kristi sat beside me and said my hair looked fabulous. She added some shape to it so my curls complimented my round face and I was ready to rip the runway. I was so relieved.

I got the okay from wardrobe to rock my pinstriped light gray and turquoise Calvin Klein two piece suit, paired with a rose-colored lace tank by Max Studio underneath my jacket. To finish the look I paired my suit with Nine West’s putty gray pointy toe stilettos.

I felt comfortable, classy, and confident to meet the “Silver Haired Fox”, Anderson Cooper. Thanks so much to the glam squad that gave me star treatment and helped me look fabulous on a very special day.

Style Notice: After Hours Meeting Chic

Style Notice: After Hours Meeting Chic

If I had to describe my style in words I would lean towards “modern” “chic” “sophisticated” “eclectic” “comfortable” “mysteriously sexy” and most importantly “timeless”. These words describe everything from my wardrobe aesthetic to my interior design style. Through the years my style has taken on many faces. I matured from an adolescent bell bottom appearance to a sexy college co-ed to parent to business professional.  My style has been the poorest and best representation of me. Now entering my 30′s my style is evolving yet again but this time I am not as confident about its direction. A lot has changed over the years and my weight and shape are no exceptions. My quest is to discover an everyday age appropriate style that compliments my figure and personality. In the Style Notice section I will try to capture my journey. Enjoy and be sure to chime in with your own style tips and tricks.

I had a meeting to attend after hours and this is what I wore. I felt comfortable and stylish. My faux snake skin Jessica Simpson platform shoes gave me the height and sexy I needed to pull of the indigo jeans. They also elongated my legs.

RUN YOUR OWN RACE!

RUN YOUR OWN RACE! STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE! Last night I had to remind myself of this very thing. In life you go through situations, obstacles, trials, tribulations, victories, joys; it’s a journey.

It is easy to look at your world… do you know what I mean by your world? Your world being the people around you: friends, associates, colleagues, family, etc.. It is easy to look at your world and desire what those people in it have or what amazing event they may be experiencing in their life. Meanwhile back at the ranch you’re questioning your own situation, your lack of luxury, your lack of fantastic whatever. That is easy.

Beloved, it may be easy but it’s not worth it. God blesses all of His faithful and just children in His perfect time. When God pours out His blessings on you it is no mistake. As believers we have to remain focused on our own path, our own race, our own journey. The path to Christ is already a narrow one. No one else can run your race for you. Be honest with yourself and take in this reality I’m about to give you; as close as you may be to someone in your world, you don’t know their complete sacrifice. You do not know what they may have had to endure to obtain, or retain, what they have or where they are in life. You don’t know the hell that they maybe secretly living with every day. Why desire something they have when God is giving you peace within your own skin, within your own situation. God has many things resereved for you. If you are more focused on everyone and everything else how can He lead you to your blessings.

RUN YOUR OWN RACE, that’s what I had to say to myself. God needs all of my attention. I can’t afford to be distracted by So and So’s new car or new house or new outfit or whatever. I need to be focused on my love relationship with Christ, on my open ended conversation with Him, on the soul He wants me to minister to, on the child He wants me to embrace and love, on the elderly women He sends my way to remind her she matters. The Lord and I are BUSY!

Don’t get me wrong, you should praise Him for showing people in your world mercy, grace and blessings. Because everything good that man has acquired is a gift from God. God doesn’t want you to desire/lust after what someone else has. He wants you to have your own. When God pours out a blessing on you, it is enough for you and those around you. Praise Him for your race; it is your opportunity to do something great with your life.

After the Holy Spirit convicted my heart, I felt such comfort and peace. There is peace in Christ. I’m so happy to be running my own race.

You can’t run your own race if you are so focused on what someone else is doing and what you don’t have. Stay focused on your own race #takemyfoolishadvice
